Abiona Sharpe

Abiona J. Sharpe has studied and practiced Restorative and Transformative Justice systems, cultures, and ways for over a decade. He is the Chair of the MCI Norfolk Transformative Justice Emerging Adults Project, and the co-founder of the MCI Norfolk Young Men's Committee/ Reaching Beyond The Bars Program. The Young Men's Committee focuses on the growth, development, rehabilitation, and reentry of the emerging adult demographic within the Massachusetts's Department of Correction (DOC). In 2018, he established the first annual family movie and game night in the DOC focused on rehabilitation, reentry, and strengthening family bonds and relationships between incarcerated men and their children. Thus, increasing public safety and decreasing prison violence. In 2019, he was elected Chair of the Father's Group Inc., which is the largest family reunification program within the DOC. He has been featured and mentioned in publications such as The New Yorker for assistance in reviving the MCI-Norfolk debate society, which is where Malcolm X was first introduced to debating before he left prison to change the world in a revolutionary way. Sharpe has worked with Boston University and Boston College professors to create, develop, and conduct independent studies for a pilot program regarding post-graduate studies and classes within the DOC. He received his certification in accounting from Stratford Career Institute, and his certification in Paralegal Studies from Blackstone Career Institute. He earned his B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies from Boston University, and hopes to obtain a Master's degree from Harvard University in either business or theology.
